Welcome to the BPD E-newsletter!
This monthly update keeps you in tune with all of the events, activities and happenings in the Bloomingdale Park District. Our mission is to efficiently and economically provide recreation programs, facilities and open space designed to provide enjoyable leisure time experiences that benefit the community.
Winter Carnival!
Experience a winter wonderland featuring holiday games and activities for all ages at the Bloomingdale Park District's annual Winter Carnival from 6:30 to 9 p.m., Dec. 7 at the Johnston Recreation Center.
The evening offers inflatable amusements, mini train ride, live reindeer, horse-drawn sleigh rides through Circle Park, cookie decorating, Little Elf's Room, performances and entertainers and, of course, Santa Claus!
Wristbands must be purchased in person at the JRC. Wristbands purchased before Dec. 7 are $7 for each child ages 2-17; wristbands purchased the night of the event are $10. All children 2 years and older must have a wristband. Adults are admitted free. Winter Carnival is sponsored by Bloomingdale Bank & Trust, Adventist GlenOaks Hospital and Associated Dental Care.
Winter/Spring Brochure
The Park District's In Season Winter/Spring Brochure is scheduled to be delivered to residents Dec. 4-8.
The guide features 30-plus new programs and classes in addition to annual special event favorites and a bevy of benefits-based programming.
Among the highlights are new special events Girls Night Out and March Madness Basketball Tournament. The guide also features information on summer camps, a new teens/tweens section, expanded BPD Museum section and even more adult fitness options.
The resident lottery is now through Dec. 19. Open registration for all residents and non-residents begins Dec. 20.
Old Town Carriage Rides
Enjoy views of Old Town Bloomingdale's festive lights and sights at the Old Town Carriage Rides from 6 to 7:30 p.m., Dec. 12 at Old Town Park.
The Bloomingdale Park District Museum will be open and offering refreshments in addition to a special holiday exhibit. This is a FREE event.
News & Notes
Men's Basketball League - Get in a workout in a competitive way in a new, 5-on-5 adult men's basketball league. All teams reach the postseason, and prizes and trophies are awarded to tournament and regular season champions. League is played Sundays, 5 to 10 p.m., and begins Jan. 27.
Drop-in ornament class - Children are invited to drop in and create a FREE ornament on Wednesday Dec. 5 or 19, between the hours of 4-8 p.m., at the Bloomingdale Park District Museum.
Little Chef Cook-Off - Children create and sample the goodies they prepare during these one-day cooking classes! Upcoming dates include Dec. 19, 21, 27 and 29. Registration deadline is one week prior to class.
Holiday Open Gym - Open Gym dates are Dec. 26-28 and Jan. 2-4 at Westfield Middle School. Times are 9-11 a.m. for grades 2-5; 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. for grades 6-8 and 1:30 to 3:30 p.m. for high school and college. Cost is $3 for residents and $6 for non-residents.
