Welcome to the BPD E-newsletter!
This monthly update keeps you in tune with all of the events, activities and happenings in the Bloomingdale Park District. Our mission is to efficiently and economically provide recreation programs, facilities and open space designed to provide enjoyable leisure time experiences that benefit the community.
Halloween Happening
Enjoy a night of spooktacular activities at the annual Halloween Happening 6:30 to 9 p.m., Oct. 26 the Johnston Recreation Center.
The night includes an inflatable house, moonwalk, hayrides through Circle Park, games and prizes, Magic by Mike, palm readings, a trick-or-treat scavenger hunt, Professor Snape's potions class, fireside storyteller at Circle Park, a family pumpkin decorating contest, crafts, Pumpkin Walk and Creepy Crawlers Room.
Wristbands are $7 if purchased before Oct. 26. Day-of wristbands cost $10. Parents are free. Halloween Happening is sponsored by Bloomingdale Bank & Trust and U.S. Cellular.
Family Hayrides
Kick back, relax and immerse yourself in the fall colors at the new Family Hayrides from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m., Oct. 17 at Springfield Park.
The whole family will enjoy this new autumn tradition. Hayrides are for all ages and cost $3/$5 for resident/non-residents. Pre-register online to assure yourself a spot.
Sunrise Chevrolet 5K Shuffle
Cruise the perimeter of Stratford Square Mall and support local parks and recreation at the 2012 Sunrise Chevrolet 5K Shuffle Oct. 21, 2012.
The race starts and finishes at Ballydoyle Irish Pub and Restaurant. Cost is $25 to register before Oct. 1, and $30 afterward. The race begins at 9 a.m. Online registration closes at noon, Oct. 17. All pre-registration closes at noon, Oct. 19. Race-day registration is 7 to 8:30 a.m.
Proceeds from the run benefit the Bloomingdale Parks Foundation, which is dedicated to helping the Bloomingdale Park District provide great recreation programs and open space while also assisting individuals gain access to programs, enhancing current programs and making improvements to all of BPD's parks.

Drop-in Fitness - The following fitness classes offer drop-ins in October: Aquasize, Aqua Combo, Aqua Bootcamp, Zumba, Zumba Gold, Vinyasa Yoga, Hot Yoga, Pi-Yo Fusion, Total Conditioning, Senior Fit, and Yoga Bootcamp. View the fall fitness schedule for dates, times and descriptions.
FREE Family Movie - Catch a FREE Family Movie Oct. 5 at 7 p.m., at the Johnston Recreation Center. Popcorn and drink are just $1!
Back to School - Westfield Jr. Spot, Kids' Place, Kindergarten Kids' Place, Preschool Adventures, and School's Out! programs have started. Have you enrolled your child?
"Keep it Simple..." - The Bloomingdale Park District Museum holds its annual mixed media show "Keep it Simple..." featuring talented local artists displaying a variety of different works through Oct. 20.
