Welcome to the BPD E-newsletter!
This monthly update keeps you in tune with all of the events, activities and happenings in the Bloomingdale Park District. Our mission is to efficiently and economically provide recreation programs, facilities and open space designed to provide enjoyable leisure time experiences that benefit the community.
Autumn Brochure
The Park District's In Season Autumn Brochure is scheduled to be delivered to residents July 31-Aug. 4.
The guide features 30-plus new programs and classes in addition to annual special event favorites and a bevy of benefits-based programming.
Among the highlights are new special events Family Hayrides and a 3-on-3 Basketball Tournament. The guide also features expanded birthday party options, new adult fitness classes and programs, and multiple winter break choices.
The resident lottery is now through Aug. 21. Open registration for all residents and non-residents begins Aug. 22.
Bags Tournament
Compete in the Bags Tournament where winners receive 50 percent of the pot! This double-elimination tournament is set for 7 to 10 p.m., Aug. 24 at Springfield Park.
The tourney features best-of-three matches. Food and beverages are provided by Ballydoyle Irish Pub & Restaurant and are included in the entrance fee.
Fairfield Fest
Can't make it to Lollapalooza? Support local indie music right here in town at the inaugural Fairfield Fest at noon, Aug. 4 in the west parking lot of the Bloomingdale Public Library.

News & Notes
Oasis closing hours - The Oasis Water Park closes for the season Aug. 12. Postseason hours run Aug. 13 - Sept. 3 at Kemmerling Pool in Roselle. Oasis season passes will be honored at Kemmerling.
Summer Concert Series - Summer concerts conclude with American English Aug. 14 and the String Rays Aug. 21. Both concerts are FREE and begin at 7 pm. Participants may bring lawn chairs and refreshments. Summer Concerts are sponsored by Bloomingdale Bank & Trust. American English is additionally sponsored by U.S. Cellular.
Family Fun Picnic - The final Family Fun Picnic of the season is scheduled for 6:30-8 p.m., Aug. 6 at Erie Park. Qdoba Mexican Grill will be on site with samples.
Lunch Bunch - Take a musical tour with Dennis and revisit the great musical moments created in the 40's, 50's and 60's at this entertaining Lunch Bunch Aug. 23 at the Museum. Lunch Bunch features lunch, dessert and drinks along with entertainment for the affordable price of $15.
Dance! - Contemporary Dance and Bollywood are two new disciplines amongst a wide selection of dance options offered this fall through the Park District. Open registration for dance begins Aug. 22.
Back to School - Westfield Jr. Spot, Kids' Place, Kindergarten Kids' Place and School's Out! programs all start soon.
Flag Football - Flag Football begins Aug. 27 and runs through Nov. 3. This exciting program introduces children to the game in a non-contact environment where they learn and develop the fundamentals of football, teamwork and sportsmanship.

The Hip Bone Connects to the Knee Bone...
The key to keeping female athletes playing their sport and continuing to the college level is strong hip abductor muscles. The hip abductor, otherwise known as the glute medius muscle, is located along the side of the hip and works to keep the pelvis level while running, kicking or throwing as well as supporting the knee during sharp turns, pivots or long distance running. Female athletes have a greater risk of knee injuries, particularly the ACL, meniscus or MCL, because they have a high rate of weakness of their hip abductors coupled with a wider hip width that angles inwards at the knee when compared to male counterparts.
