This monthly update keeps you in tune with all of the events, activities and happenings in the Bloomingdale Park District. Our mission is to efficiently and economically provide recreation programs, facilities and open space designed to provide enjoyable leisure time experiences that benefit the community.

Daddy-Daughter Princess Gala

Spend an enchanted evening with your little loved one and make her princess dreams a reality at the Daddy Daughter Princess Gala 7 to 9 p.m., Feb. 1 or 2.

Couples have a memorable evening dancing to the music of the DJ and enjoying an elegant dinner of chicken, beef, pasta, salad, vegetables and dessert. Each couple receives a photo to take home.

Reservations are required. Drop-ins are NOT allowed. Cost is $49 for residents and $54 for non-residents. Fee is per couple. Additional dazzling daughters are welcome at $25 apiece.

Various local photographers highlight this annual show featuring contemporary artistic photography, opening Jan. 12 at the Bloomingdale Park District Museum.

A reception will be held 6 to 8 p.m., Jan. 18, featuring a special hands-on demonstration. Come to look; come to make a purchase; come to be inspired!

Fitness Open House - Experience a variety of programs FREE at the Bloomingdale Park District’s Fitness Open House 8:30 to 10:30 a.m., Jan. 5 at the JRC. This open house is a great way to view the facilities, meet instructors and get in a great workout. Schedule of classes is as follows:

Planning an Event? - We have your solution! The Park District offers a wide array of rental options at its parks and facilities. All facility rentals require proper paperwork and applicable fees. Detailed rental binders are available for viewing at the Bloomingdale Park District front office or view rental options online. Call (630) 529-3650 for more information.

Men's Basketball League - Get in a workout in a competitive way in a new, 5-on-5 adult men's basketball league. All teams reach the postseason, and prizes and trophies are awarded to tournament and regular season champions. League is played Sundays, 5 to 10 p.m., and begins Jan. 27.

Little Chef Cook-Off - Children create and sample the goodies they prepare during these one-day cooking classes! Upcoming dates include Jan. 18 and 21. Registration deadline is one week prior to class.

Girls Night Out - Bend, sip and relax at the Park District's first-ever Girls Night Out 7-9 p.m., Feb. 8 at the Bloomingdale Park District Museum! The evening involves a 45-minute yoga session, wine and cheese sampling and short presentations on healthy eating and fitness. Register in person at the JRC or online here.

Is it my bed? Is it my pillow? Why am I so stiff in the morning? These are some of the most common questions asked at my office. Patients feel the stiffest in the morning when getting out of bed, and then start to loosen up as the day goes on.  Often a patient will even demonstrate their bent-over walk to the bathroom, which I affectionately call the “old man shuffle."
